Description
CK (CREATININE KINASE) provide more specific information about injured tissue because of their tissue distribution. CK-MM is useful in skeletal muscle diseases, such as muscular dystrophy, CK-MB in acute myocardial infarction (AMI), and CK-BB in brain damage and malignant tumor of the gastrointestinal tract. To detect and monitor muscle damage; to help diagnose conditions associated with muscle damage; for heart attack detection, this test has been largely replaced by troponin T and I – markers more specific to cardiac tissue; however, it may sometimes be used to help detect a second or subsequent heart attack.
