Description
Measures the amount of dihydrotestosterone in the blood. DHT is a hormone derived from testosterone and is directly linked to male and female baldness, sexual development in puberty, acne, and prostate enlargement / cancer. The DHT Test measures the level of a hormone known as Dihydrotestosterone. DHT is an androgen, a steroid hormone which plays an important role in sexual development, function, and health. Increased levels of DHT are one of the primary causes of hair loss in men and women. A DHT test is typically ordered to determine if heightened DHT levels are a cause for hair loss. This test is also used to evaluate risk for prostate cancer. However, it is important to note that DHT is not the only contributing factor in the development of prostate cancer.
