Lipoprotein-Associated Phospholipase A2- Helps determine your risk of developing cardiovascular disease (CVD), including your risk of coronary heart disease (CHD) and ischemic stroke. Lipoprotein-associated phospholipase A2 (Lp-PLA2) is an enzyme that appears to play a role in the inflammation of blood vessels and is thought to help promote atherosclerosis. This test measures the amount or activity of Lp-PLA2 in the blood. It looks for a specific lipoprotein, Lp-PLA2, in your blood. The test is used to help predict your risk for cardiovascular disease and stroke. Lipids are fats in your blood. Lipoproteins are combinations of fats and proteins that carry the fats in your bloodstream.
